  1. What is the United Orthodontic Buying Group (UOBG)? The United Orthodontic Buying Group is a very large (over 20% of all the orthodontists in the USA and Canada are UOBG Members) group of orthodontists in the United States and Canada, which offer the best products and services for orthodontists. As of June of 2008, UOBG is now owned and operated by Dentsply/GAC International.
Individual and very small groups of orthodontists do not have enough significant buying power to truly negotiate the great deals; the amount of business (money) that the individual orthodontist offers to a large company is relatively inadequate no matter how large the practice(s) to truly achieve excellent financial benefits.
  2. How large is the United Orthodontic Buying Group? The UOBG is the largest buying group for orthodontists in the world and is growing at a very rapid rate. The UOBG Members now comprise over 20% of all the orthodontists in the USA and Canada. This rapid growth rate is because orthodontists now realize that the only manner in which they can have control over their purchasing of products/services is to do it themselves. The UOBG allows orthodontists to accomplish this objective by massing their buying power into one large group (UOBG).
  3. Who can become a Member of the UOBG? Any practicing orthodontist may join the UOBG if he/she meets the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists definition of an "orthodontic specialist". Only orthodontists from the USA and Canada may be accepted as UOBG Members because of international trade restrictions.
  4. Am I entitled to course discounts?  Yes.  Each account is entitled to one free DENTSPLY GAC CE course per year.  These are limited one attendee per account and local one day courses, not multi-day programs. You also have the option to redeem UCash for any course or multi-day program.  Please refer to the course flyers for UCash pricing.  Click here for a full list of DENTSPLY GAC Courses.
  5. What does it cost to become a Member?  There are no costs, fees or any other gimmicks to become a UOBG Member . Your only obligation is to begin purchasing your supplies and products from our vendors including to begin purchasing your bands and brackets within 90 days of your UOBG application . This is critical to UOBG members because these chosen companies can only provide the excellent discounts if we as Members provide the companies with volume business.
  6. What do I do to become a UOBG Member? Simply complete the on-line application form or fax/mail it to the number indicated on the UOBG Application Form (866-642-2862). As soon as the UOBG office receives your form, we will process your application and you should be registered with our vendors to begin your ordering within 24 hours. You will also receive a Membership Mailer welcoming you as a new member along with our Vendor List which contains the UOBG business alliances, contact persons, and phone numbers, etc.
  7. What are the UOBG Member's obligations? The UOBG Members obligations are simply to focus your purchasing of products and services utilizing the UOBG Vendors. It is very important for you to utilize the UOBG Vendors because the volume of business that our group does with a particular company determines the amounts and quality of our discounts, etc.; the greater our purchasing from a given company, the greater our discounts and other benefits. For example, you must switch from your present orthodontic supply company to Dentsply GAC within 90 days from when we received your UOBG application because UOBG's strength lies in its volume purchasing. Secondly, you must keep your account balances Net 0 within 30 days.
  8. What if you are using an orthodontic supply company that is not the same as the current UOBG company (GAC)?  Easy. Upon approval by UOBG of your received application, GAC will be notified and a GAC Rep will notify you, normally within 48 hours and will guide you through your exchange. Although switching orthodontic appliances is not always a clinician's favorite endeavor, the procedure and result is very rewarding, both financially and clinically. This procedure needs to be completed within 90 days from receipt of your UOBG application.
  9. Is there an Exchange Program for my current company's brackets, bands? Answer: Yes, an excellent exchange program for a beginning UOBG Member. You may turn in up to 4,000* units (unit = a bracket, a band, or a band/bracket assembly) and receive your choice of DENTSPLY GAC equivalent product. Contact your local representative for details.
*A maximun of 4,000 total units can be exchanged not to exceed 2,000 brackets and 2,000 bands/band assemblies.
  10. What is the current UOBG discount program on brackets and bands? The discount on brackets begins at 58% and proceeds upward to 65% depending on which bracket you choose. The UOBG pricing program on bands is currently 58% discount (lugs and cleats are at no charge when welded on a band).
  11. Do UOBG Members actually get free peripherals? Yes, UOBG Members receive free peripherals. The UOBG current arrangement with GAC is that for any given bracket/band purchase, a Member receives a free 45% credit balance(UCash Rewards)on their account to utilize in acquiring any/all peripherals needed for their practice. In addition, all peripherals have received a 50% discount for UOBG Members before they acquire them through their accrued credit balance (UCash Rewards) from bracket/band purchasing.
  12. How do Members place orders for products? The UOBG has designed its overall program for simplicity and ease of use for the orthodontist. To place orders, the Member (or usually a staff member) contacts by phone, fax, or on-line a given vendor providing the products in question. The ordering individual identifies themselves as a member of the United Orthodontic Buying Group and wishes to place an order. The company checks to see that you are on the UOBG Member List. The order is then placed and shipment, delivery, and invoicing/payment are as usual for the practice. In other words, you continue to do business as you always have; the only difference being that the vendors understand that you are a UOBG Member and you simply receive the pricing program assigned to UOBG. In your office, nothing really should change.
  13. Other than orthodontic appliances and peripherals, what are other advantages? The UOBG is designed to meet all of the professional and personal needs of the orthodontist. This is not just orthodontic supplies but includes any other areas in or out of the office such as automobiles, computers, etc. This is also the reason why orthodontic supply companies which indicate that they "have their own buying group" simply cannot possibly offer the wide range and as deep discounts and overall deals such as the UOBG can offer you. For a broader listing of benefits, please click on the Benefits section.
  14. How do I know how many UCash Rewards I have to spend? You can call 800-645-5530 and a Customer Service Representative can provide you with that information.
